When Is the Best Time to Book a Newborn Photoshoot?

There’s something about the early newborn days that feels like a dream. A quiet, blurry dream filled with soft sighs, milky breath and tiny fingers curling tightly around yours. And it goes fast — too fast.

One moment you’re cradling a swaddled bundle in the hush of the hospital, and the next, their babygrow doesn’t fit and they’re staring up at you with wide, curious eyes.

So when is the best time to book a newborn photoshoot?

The truth is — the earlier the better. I always recommend booking during pregnancy, ideally just after your 20-week scan, to make sure I can reserve space for you in the diary. I pencil in your due date, and once baby arrives, we pick the actual session date together — usually between 5 and 14 days old.

This is the golden window. Babies are naturally sleepier, more curled, and still so very new. Those little details you want to remember forever — the peach-fuzz shoulders, the tiny back wrinkles, the flaky skin and button nose — are most beautifully captured in these first two weeks.

That said, if your baby has already arrived and you haven’t booked yet — don’t worry. I’ve had babies in the studio up to four weeks old, and while they might be more alert, we still capture the magic.
